In over 12 years of working in corporate, I had only two managers who actually helped me grow. The rest? They were triggered by my Human Design and leadership energy. Now, as an entrepreneur and leadership coach and mentor, I finally understand why—and how it affects not just individuals, but entire organizations.

📌 Based on this LinkedIn post: “I only had two managers who made me better”

Why Human Design and leadership energy matter

Your Human Design chart reveals how your energy functions. And in leadership, energy matters more than most realize. I have a defined willpower center—a consistent, heart-driven energy that lets me move mountains when I’m aligned. Only 30% of people have this type of defined willpower energy.

And in corporate? That difference was everything.

Two of my managers saw my drive, gave me space, challenged me, and helped me grow. The rest? They were threatened by it.

That taught me something powerful: If you don’t understand your own energy—and the energy of the people you lead—you risk mismanaging potential.

Understanding your own leadership energy through Human Design

Human Design coaching gives leaders a personalized roadmap to:

✔ Understand how they naturally influence others
✔ Identify what kind of energy they bring into a room
✔ Discover how they make decisions (their inner authority)
✔ See what triggers them—and what empowers them

You don’t need to lead like someone else. In fact, trying to imitate a different type of energy creates misalignment, burnout, or unhealthy competition.

What happens when leadership energy is misaligned

When I look back at those 12 years in corporate, I now understand what happened:

🟠 Many of my managers had an undefined willpower center. That’s 70% of the population. These individuals don’t have consistent access to drive, self-worth, or perseverance. There’s nothing wrong with that—but when they lead people who do have it, they often feel inadequate or triggered.

Instead of embracing differences, they tried to match or control the energy.

💥 That leads to dominance, micromanagement, or even sabotage.

What’s worse? People with strong inner energy—like I had—start dimming their light. They hold back to keep others comfortable.

And that’s where innovation dies. Growth stops. And potential is wasted.

A real-world example: from resistance to alignment

One of my clients, a VP of Global Sales at a tech company, experienced this dynamic firsthand. When a new CRO joined the team, she brought a dominant, top-down management style—built not on confidence, but on compensation.

He—naturally confident, with a defined heart and willpower—sensed her tension immediately. His instinct? To tone himself down, not challenge her. It drained him.

We worked on:

  • Recognizing what energy was his, and what wasn’t
  • Identifying his Human Design authority for decisions
  • Restoring his natural leadership rhythm

The result? He reclaimed his voice. And he stopped carrying energy that wasn’t his responsibility.

Why it matters now more than ever

Leaders can no longer rely on old systems, hierarchy, or force. Modern leadership is about energy, intuition, and adaptability.

And studies support this shift:

Research from the University of Cambridge (2021) highlights that emotionally and energetically intelligent leadership correlates with higher team trust, innovation, and resilience during periods of uncertainty. Source: Cambridge Judge Business School – Leadership & Emotional Intelligence Research

When you lead from aligned energy, your people feel it. They respond to it. They follow it.

3 tips to embrace your Human Design and leadership energy

  1. Discover your Human Design chart: Know your type, authority, and defined centers. Start there. Awareness is 80% of the transformation.
  2. Stop leading from comparison: Just because another leader pushes hard, doesn’t mean that’s your way. Your power is unique. Lead from it.
  3. Create environments that support all energies: High performers don’t all look the same. Build cultures that reward authenticity, not just output.
